Spindle Feathered Tree DIY

I found these cute spindle legs from a table which had these glass claw foot feet.
I grabbed them at first because I knew hubby would like to use the claw foot for a cane topper.
And..... he and my older son did use them on their canes.
Good job guys!
That left me with the spindle legs.  With Christmas crafts on my mind, the thought of a feather tree hit me as I was moving the spindles around in my garage.  I quickly made a base for the trees, screwing it to the spindle..
I had these pieces of greens from a project years ago.
I drilled holes in the spindles, alternating sides to tier the tree.  I then used hot glue and glued them into the spindle.
For the ends I added some Styrofoam balls with wire.
So Prim...
So simple...
So me ....

A New Year and a Sign For a Friend

Happy 2018 everyone!
I know I am a little late. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!  I really enjoyed the season this year. It was so nice to actually enjoy our family, our friends, and our home.
One of my favorite things this Christmas was having a fire in our fireplace.
It was the first time we used our fireplace since we moved into our home in 2016.  It was wonderful just sitting there with the hubby and kiddos, listening to Christmas music play in the background.
~
The holiday season passed by quickly, and we found our selves in the longest cold snap.  We found out some pipes in our house do not like it when the temps drop below 0 degrees...no major problems though.
We recently enjoyed some warmer weather; with that came an energy in me to finally work on a sign that a friend of mine had been ever so patiently waiting for.
I glued two boards together, sanded it down to the natural wood, and then let her choose between the stains that I had on hand.
I am not a natural at calligraphy, so I must cheat with fonts on the computer. (Using the Charcoal Method)
When I printed the words off, the spacing didn't look like it was correct between the letters in the word Tractor. In this pic (above) you can see that 'Tractor' doesn’t quite look right, and I was hoping to fix it as I applied the paint marker, but I really didn't do a good job.
This is why special orders make me nervous.
HOWEVER
My friend was sweet enough to like it no matter my flaws.

Making a Small Wreath

I wanted to hang a small wreath on the corner cabinet in my kitchen.  To buy one was very pricey--I thought.  I was able to purchase this bunch of  Greens for Half the price.  I found this little wreath at a thrift store for 50 cents.
I just needed to do the work.

I took some linen and ripped a piece to hang my little wreath.
It is just perfect.

Prim Grubby Jars

I am enjoying this grubby thing, and I will be having more projects to share with you in the near future.  Here are some mason jars I recently did.
Now I used Elmer's Glue, but it was not the washable kind.
This is what it looks like with the first coat of grubby mix
(coffee grounds and cinnamon)
After the mix is completely dry (I waited at least 8 hours) before I brushed on more glue and mix for a second coat.
This is the final glue process after applying two coats of grub.  You just paint the glue all over the dried grubby mix. Don't worry the glue dries clear.  The pic on the right shows what it looks like as the glue is drying.
Here are some finished Prim-grubbed Jars.
I wanted color on some of them, so I painted half of them.
I still like the Primitive look so I also stained them.
I made some grubby tags and wrapped homespun and cheesecloth around them.
Here are the painted jars.
I added some faux greenery to half for a Prim Christmas look.
I love the way they turned out!

Christmas 2014

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.
We traveled this year and celebrated with family and friends in NC.
It was so relaxing and memorable.
When we came home, we had our 'Christmas' the next morning.
Hubby read the Christmas story and prayed and thanked the Lord for His many blessings He has given us this year.  Life was not meant to live without the Lord, and I am so thankful God fulfilled scripture and sent His son to die for all.  All that we need to do is receive His free gift--Jesus.
We did, and without Christ I don't know what our family would do.
It was time for the kiddos to unwrap presents.
I used leftover Advertisement newspaper that had such need primitive graphics all over it.  This is also the third year that I have used my Homemade tags.
I also like the Phoenix paint box as a base for my tree :)
Looking forward to seeing what the Lord will do with us in 2015!
Happy New Year!

Our Bustling Christmas

I have not had a chance to share any photos from my home while it was decorated for Christmas.  This Christmas we traveled to NC to visit family.  I was so excited to see my new niece.  We left our home early on the 23rd of December.  We chose not to open presents with the kiddos until after we got back from our trip.  Truth was, I had not bought anything for them before our trip.  This had to be the worse year for me being ready for Christmas.
On Christmas Eve we visited Biltmore House.  It was such a beautiful sunny day, but it was freezing.  When we left PA it was in the 60's and 70's.  For some reason I was not thinking it would be colder down south, but it was!  When we finished our tour of the house, we walked out into a wonderful flurry of snowflakes!  It was so festive.  I love how the Lord knows what can make these moments so memorable.  It really felt like Christmas.
Our stay was short in NC.  After many wonderful meals, lots of laughter, and special moments with my new niece we had to say good-bye.  We headed back to PA early on the 27th.  The next day I was geared up to do some crazy, quick Christmas shopping.  I really found some great deals.  This might not be a bad idea to do every year!  I shopped till I dropped and was able to buy everything I needed in 4 hours.  I came home and wrapped the gifts in brown paper and newspaper.  I re-used the CHRISTMAS TAGS I had made last year, and I was ready for the kiddos.  They came home from spending a day with dad; we read the Christmas story together, prayed, and then in 10 minutes all that hard work was undone and there were some happy kiddos.
It was a very special Christmas season for our family.
God is so Good!

Handmade Christmas Tags

I love a Country Christmas with brown bag wrappings, homespun cloth, and handmade tags.  I made these tags out of brown paper, pieces of leather, drop cloth, tea bags, and some greenery and rusty bells.  Hint:  try and find greenery and bells at second hand shops or yard sales.  Sometimes you can get them off of someone's old craft :)
For the drop cloth tags, I cut out the shape of a tag from the drop cloth and mod-podged the whole tag.  It feels a little rubbery when dry.
I just love the way they look on a brown paper wrapped gift :)

Ornaments Using Webbing Scraps

Blogging has been at a complete halt as I am frantically trying to prepare for my craft sale, keep up with school and everyday life.  My house looks like a tornado came through, but I know I will be ready to welcome customers this Wednesday.
I thought I'd share with you a cute and easy ornament idea.
I started with webbing, greens, tags, candy canes made from pipe cleaners, and a paper tag I cut myself out of card stock.  I did pre-stain my metal tags so that I would just be ready to use them whenever.  You don't have to stain them.
Next I printed some sayings off of the computer and tea-dyed them.  When they were dried I Mod-Podged them onto the tags.
Here are the ornaments all assembled together with some twine.
Okay, so maybe it is not the fastest ornament to do, but it is a great way to use some webbing scraps.  I also realized I got rid of the paper tag and just used the webbing for a background.  I will share with you some tags I made from the card stock soon :)

There's Something in the Air

At this time of year, Christmas decor and Christmas music creep its way into our home.  My craft sale has my mind thinking of the Christmas holiday, and who can make Christmas decorations without Christmas music?!?  This year I really wanted to have some functional primitive stockings to sell.  I used left over drop cloth for fabric.  I made up the pattern for my stocking last year when I made the kiddos their newer stockings.  I think they have had at least 4 different stockings throughout their lives because my decorating taste has changed over the years.  I then made up a mixture of coffee, tea and vanilla to dye my stockings.  I know my kids just love it when the kitchen looks like a laundry room.  (it's that time of year for us :)
Now came the fun part of decorating.  I want them simple and rusty.  I used a bag that I think I bought at a yardsale for cheap.  I cut it up to use the leather.  I didn't like how it didn't zip or close tightly at the top.  I thought by cutting it up I would use it more :)
I hand sewed it onto the stocking with a little "x" design.
 I stained some tags.
Using old music sheets, I Mod Podged some music paper to the one side of the tag.  With no set pattern, I brushed the ripped paper onto the tag leaving some edges bare to show the stain.
With a rusty star, rusty bell, some dyed cheese cloth and drop cloth, and a tag I made a simple primitive stocking.
 The inside is not lined.
Totally Prim!
